The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) and A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) have filed a joint complaint with the Range Forest Officer of Mahendraganj against the Betasing Forest Beat House officer in charge.
According to the complaint, on Saturday members of the two groups were informed that a pick-up truck (with no licence plate) was being used to transport logs of teak wood to Assam at around 9:30pm.
The organisations intercepted the truck and summoned the authorities, with police and forest officials responding. The truck and its contents were handed over to the forest officers but today the complainants found, on visiting the Betasing beat house, that the truck was nowhere to be seen and they have demanded that the officials be punished for releasing the vehicle.
