The A’chik Progressive Approach (APA) has been left flabbergasted by an alleged act of the Sericulture Department to cut down 30 tall, full grown trees in East Garo Hills in order to plant a number of saplings.
APA president Francis Marak called the reasoning for such an act “utterly unacceptable and ridiculous” while also expressing the group’s strong condemnation.
He said that there was absolutely no justification to use that area to plant saplings and said that felling 30 big trees is a “clear violation of environmental and forest conservation norms.”
“We strongly protest and object to this mindless destruction of our natural resources and demand immediate action against those responsible,” Marak added in his complaint to the Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial) of Simsanggre Division.
