The East Khasi Hills district magistrate has prohibited assembly of people at the Presbyterian Church of Ksehpyndeng under Mawryngkneng police station.
In an order under Section 163 BNSS passed today, the district magistrate said there is an ongoing dispute between two factions of church and the newly established faction intends to re-baptize the older residents of the locality on Sunday, an action vehemently opposed by the rival faction.
“If this move is allowed may escalate tensions and result in a serious breach of law and order,” the district magistrate said.
Violators will be prosecuted under Section 223 of the BNS, the order added.
