The College of Community Science (CCS) in Tura hosted a regional workshop on ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Millet Cultivation – NER Perspective’ yesterday.
This workshop was organised by CCS Tura in collaboration with All India Coordinated Research Project on Sorghum and Millets, ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad.
More than 130 farmers from different districts of Garo Hills participated in this workshop and received 50kg of millet seeds and 100 litres of biofertilisers.
Exhibition stalls were also set up by different organisations, both private and public, to showcase their products as part of this workshop.
This regional workshop was crucial in raising awareness of the value of millets in the North East region in light of climate change among farmers, students, subject matter experts and other community stakeholders, a press release stated today.
