The Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF) in Garo Hills has flagged illegal sale of tribal land to non-tribals with the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and sought legal action against individuals involved.
The forum has stated that illegal sale of land in contravention to the Meghalaya Transfer of Land Regulation Act, 1971 has been going on at Bulujora under Babilgre Aking Land, Wadagokgre, Rajabala, Phulbari, and surrounding areas.
In a complaint to the GHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member in charge of land and revenue, the CRF said that non-tribals are obtaining ID cards and documents, facilitating their illegal migration from Assam to Meghalaya.
The forum has demanded verification of the ID cards and documents and takes action against those responsible for facilitating the illegal migration and land sale and to conduct a joint investigation with departmental authorities, police, NGOs, and other stakeholders into the matter.
