A magisterial inquiry has been instituted into the death of a 35-year old man during violent protests in Mairang, post-result declaration of the assembly elections.
Eastern West Khasi Hills Additional District Magistrate informed that additional district magistrate Vivera A Hynniewta will head the inquiry to find out the cause of death of Aiban Khymdeit, a resident of Pyndengumiong, Lumiew Tiehpdang.
On March 2, Khymdeit was found dead on NH 44 E in Mairang. The incident took place soon after Congress supporters had gheraoed the DC’s office, expressing dissatisfaction over the Mairang assembly constituency results.
The body of Khymdeit was identified by his wife yesterday.
The inquiry officer has invited any person who has knowledge of the incident and is willing to give witness statement or any other information about the incident to depose before her in the office of the Deputy Commissioner for recording their statements from 11 am to 3 pm on all working days before March 14.
