In a bid to inculcate feelings of patriotism and love for one’s nation among the youth of the state, portraits of the unsung heroes of Meghalaya were unveiled today at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), here today.
NEHU vice Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla unveiled the portraits in the presence of teachers, non-teaching staff and the students of the university.
In his speech he said that the Northeastern states have contributed a lot for freedom of the country and the world needs to know about it.
“When we are in the other parts of the country, people rarely speak about the freedom fighters from the north-eastern region, let alone the state of Meghalaya. Glorification of the contribution of the freedom fighters from this part of the country is necessary and it’s about time that we inculcate the feeling of patriotism among the youths of this nation and help them in spreading the knowledge and information of the freedom fighters from this state” he said.
He also mentioned that the freedom fighters of Meghalaya—U Tirot Sing Syiem, Pa Togan Sangma and U Kiang Nangbah—have and sacrificed their lives for the people of Meghalaya. It is in this spirit that the university has taken the initiative of making the effort of glorification of our freedom fighters.
