The East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtngner, today warned the public about the dangers of screen sharing apps, which can be used by fraudsters to dupe unsuspecting individuals of their money.
Screen sharing apps are used to allow a computer user to be able to view and even control a computer in another location. These apps have bona fide applications but can also be used for illegal activity.
According to Nongtnger, it has been found that several victims have been duped by fraudsters who claim to be customer care operators and ask their targets to install a screen sharing app.
Once the victim gives access to the perpetrator, the latter then withdraws money from the target’s bank account.
Some of the screen sharing apps listed by Nongtnger are Team Viewer, Quick Support and Any Desk.
