East Khasi Hills police have warned the public about a “quick money scam” using a fake investment platform in the name of “Numgenious AI’ with the link https://numgenius-ai.vsisk.com.
According to Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem, this fake investment platform is currently doing the rounds in the state.
“It is duping unsuspecting citizens in the garb of gaining quick returns for their investment within a short period of time,” Syiem said in a statement today.
According to the SP, multiple cases have been reported in East Khasi Hills in the past week and investigation is on to book the online fraudsters.
Illustrating the modus operandi of the scamsters, he said that the scam is being perpetrated through Whatsapp with interested people inviting their friends to join and be part of it.
“The group shares hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, etc schemes claiming to multiply the investors’ money manifold. Once the money is paid to the scammer, the payee does not hear back from them. The perpetrator may change the name and the link to get more unsuspecting people to fall prey,” Syiem added.
He also said that the public are requested to be alert for not falling for such quick money schemes and to report any similar looking scam to the closest police station. The public can report to the Cyber Crime helpline number 1930 and also to the Police Control Room, Shillong at 0364-2215427 or 6009196479 for any assistance.
