Police is on the lookout for 10 members of the Marngar family involved in the murder of their 80-year old uncle for allegedly practicing witchcraft.
West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert G Lyngdoh said that investigation is on and all the names of the people involved in the murder are available.
He informed that the eight members of the family who were arrested for the crime are under judicial custody.
Moris Marngar was buried alive over the suspicion that he practiced witchcraft on October 7, a day after he was forcibly taken from his home at Mawliehbah Mawnar village about three kilometers to Nongdisong village on October 6.
He was accused by the family members of casting an evil spell over his niece. His body was exhumed on Monday.
Preliminary investigation by police has revealed that 18 members of the extended family are involved in the killing.Eight people have so far been arrested.
Meanwhile, the Marngar clan has condemned the gruesome murder and said such superstition is not acceptable in the society.
Blassing Marngar President of the clan said branding people as menshohnoh has been there for years in the state and many have lost their lives because of superstitions. “It is time that people should stop blind beliefs in this century,” Marngar said.
