The North East Student’s Organisation (NESO) today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to speak up on the Manipur violence as his ‘silence’ will further alienate the indigenous people of the region.
NESO, which comprises eight students’ bodies in the region in a statement, said it is shocked and surprise at the PM for maintaining a stoic silence till date on the happenings in Manipur.
“The Prime Minister should speak up lest the Government of India has a hidden agenda behind his inaction,” NESO Chairman Samuel B Jyrwa said.
The student’s organisation also blamed the state and central governments for their utter failure in controlling and putting a full stop to violence even after more than 45 days inspite of the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the presence of additional armed forces in that state.
NESO further said it is concerned with the ongoing incidents of violence and arson and expressed it solidarity with the suffering of the people of Manipur and called for peace to prevail and immediate cessation of all sorts of violence.
“We appeal to the citizens of Manipur not to believe in fake news, misinformation or false propaganda which will worsen the present situation,” Jyrwa added.
Meanwhile, NESO has informed that it will hold a candle vigil in all state capitals of the region on June 28 with an appeal to shun violence so that peace and tranquility returns in Manipur.
