A ‘plogging’ (a contraction of picking litter and jogging) event was organised by the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner’s office in collaboration with the Nongpoh Town Committee today.
The event was held not only to clean up the district headquarters but also to raise awareness among locals about the importance of cleanliness and to stop open defecation.
Youths from eight localities and villages under Nongpoh town participated.
This programme was also a part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav to commemorate 75 years of Indian independence.
Additional Deputy Commissioner B.J Kharshandi flagged off the event, which concluded at Nongpoh Shopping Complex.
Others who were present in the programme include the general secretary of the Nongpoh town committee, Rayonald Kharkamni, District Sports Officer, D Khonglam, and village leaders.
