Chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board, Metbah Lyngdoh MLA, today informed that it is conducting frequent reviews with various government departments on steps to manage traffic congestion in the state capital.
“As far as traffic is concerned, it is not just the citizens – I am also experiencing the same and you are also experiencing the same,” he told reporters. “One has to look at it and see what the solution to decongest is.”
The board had met with officials from the police and Public Works Department in its last meeting, as well as those from other line departments. These made presentations to the board on the status of planning to decongest Shillong.
“We have seen that a few developments are taking place and will take place, which has to be sped up to ensure that people do not suffer from this congestion,” Lyngdoh added.
Expressing concern on the negative impact of traffic jams, he said, “Many unwanted situations have also arisen due to traffic jams where we have seen people losing lives and daily commuters in the city are also suffering.”
He further informed that another review meeting will soon be held.
