Phoebe Dale Nongrum and her co-driver Nash Ross won the women’s category of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) opening race in Chennai.
Fifty-one cars took part in the 2024 season opener, with Meghalaya’s Nongrum competing in the INRC 3 category driving a modified Volkswagen Polo for the Snap Rally Team.
Nongrum and Ross (from Hyderabad) won the ladys’ category by beating last year’s national champions. Nongrum stood 13th overall in the competition and eight in the INRC 3 category.
“It was a tough round for me since this was my first time jumping into a faster car and competing with the top drivers,” she said after the race. “I learned a lot, had a good experience with the car and I am looking forward to the second round of the season.”
Nongrum also thanked her sponsors and Meghalaya Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, especially the Director, Isawanda Laloo, for her support as well as the support of the Meghalaya Motorsports Society president Easter Kharkongor.
