The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed concerns about recent incidents of criminal activity, particularly the hurling of petrol bombs at specific targets, including government officials.
State BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang, also a former senior police official, has appealed to the state and district police to utilise all available resources to put an end to these criminal acts, which are contributing to a negative perception of safety among people who visit the state.
In the past week an incendiary attack was made against the vehicle of a NEEPCO official (though it actually hit a police Gypsy) and a petrol bomb was also hurled at a residence of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar in the city.
These follow on from three murders of non-tribal labourers – two in the Ichamati area and one in Mawlai Mawroh.
