In a special operation, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya in collaboration with Meghalaya police, apprehended a suspected Bangladeshi people smuggler near the international border in East Khasi Hills on Saturday.
The individual has been identified as Md Mijan Mia (49) of Bangladesh’s Sunamganj district.
Acting on specific information, troops of 193 Battalion BSF Meghalaya and local police arrested Miya from the jungle area near the international border.
During initial questioning, the apprehended individual disclosed that he has been operating as a tout, facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India and engaging in smuggling of goods as well.
He was handed over to Dangar police station for further investigation and legal action.
