Women’s College, Shillong today organised a panel discussion on ‘Bridging the Mind-Gap North-East and Mainland’.
The programme was organised to commemorate the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Miranda House, Delhi for a joint academic and research collaboration, cultural exchange programmes, aimed at promoting quality education and scholarly activities of mutual interests.
The panel discussion was moderated by Prof Ashok Archarya, Dept of Political Science, University of Delhi and had Editor The Shillong Times Patricia Mukhim, author and translator Bijoya Sawian, educator and author Tapati Baruah Kashyap, Dr Rajesh Dev from the department of Political Science University of Delhi and and Dr L. Bidhan Chandra Singh the Associate Prof, Zakir Husain Delhi College University of Delhi as the panellists.
The panellists encapsulated the importance of breaking barriers where there was a mention of the approach of intersectionality could be used keeping in mind the various layers which have to be unearth to bridge the gap between mainland and North East India.
A panellist said that the educational system is also partly to be blamed since people tend to understand the world better than their own country. They also stressed on the need to deconstruct and dismantle constructs like “North East” region to bridge the mind gap agreed on the importance of connection and communication to form links between North East and the rest of India.
NEC Secretary Moses Chalai attended the programme as the chief guest and spoke about the elements of nation building and mutual benefit being the most important among them.
Earlier, a portrait of the great educationist, Babu Jeebon Roy was also unveiled in the B.B Dutta Memorial Library of the college.
The programme was attended by several dignitaries, heads of institutions, faculty members and students both in the auditorium as well as online.
