The Dorbar Shnong of Laban, women’s and youth groups today gave a warm welcome to the winner of Talenticaa Miss India Global 2020 – Gargee Nandy.
The pageant was held in Goa in December and Nandy will now represent the state and country in international beauty pageants.
South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai presented Nandy, who is a resident of Laban, with traditional shawls from Jaintia Hills and a cheque of Rs 1.50 lakh.
In her speech, Nandy said, “I had nothing to say when, at the Talenticaa, one of the judges asked me to tell them about my state and the challenges I face as a woman because in our state women are respected so much and I’m so proud to be born in a matrilineal society like Shillong. I got a lot of support from the people of Meghalaya and it is an honour to be a part, born and brought up in Meghalaya.”
