Members of the workers’ union and Khasi Students Union held a protest to demand legal action and the removal of the Dean of the College of Post Graduate in Agricultural Science of Central Agricultural University, located in Umiam, Ri-Bhoi.
The protest also saw a heavy police presence to ensure that there were no untoward incidents.
An FIR was filed on February 6 against the Dean, Jitendra Chauhan, by two female employees who accused him of sexual molestation.
The FIR was filed at Umiam Police Station and the criminal case has been registered at the Women’s Police Station in Nongpoh.
The KSU has also demanded that the CAU, which is headquartered in Imphal, remove one Ram Singh, who is alleged to have tried to bribe the women to keep silent on the alleged molestation.
After the protest, the college’s faculty also expressed their grief and concern on the incident and informed that proper notice has been served and intimated to the higher authorities so that an inquiry committee can be set up.
