Former Syiem of Hima Nongspung, Patrick Syiemiong has moved the Meghalaya High Court challenging his suspension by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The KHADC in September suspended Syiemiong from the post of Syiem of Hima Nongspung. It also appointed Kyntiewborlang Syiemlieh as the Acting Syiem.
During hearing of Syiemiong’s writ petition on October 4, the High Court bench of Justice Wanlura Diengdoh directed the KHADC to file its reply to the points raised by Syiemiong in his petition.
Syiemiong was represented by Lesley Khyriem while the KHADC was represented by Themis T. Diengdoh.
The next hearing on the case will be held on October 22.
Recently, KHADC Executive Member in charge of Elaka Administration, Jambor War said that the council had followed the rules while suspending Syiemiong.
According to War, the suspended Syiem had failed to provide answers to the complaints made against him, including that he had given permission to the Assam government to construct a road on Meghalaya territory.
“Based on the complaints, Syiemiong was suspended and an inquiry was constituted to search out the truth,” War said.
“If the allegations made against him are proven false then Syiemiong will be reinstated,” he added.
War also said that Syiemiong failed to appear before the District Council Court when summoned twice.
