One person was arrested for allegedly gunning down a farmer and injuring four others at Kenbah Malai village under Mawsynram C&RD Block, police said.
East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, Sylvester Nongtnger said that a group of gunmen had reportedly opened indiscriminate fire at farmers, killing one and injuring four others.
The deceased has been identified as Shalansing Mawkhaid (32) from Kenbah Malai and those injured were Prupstarland Shylla (30), Kobinstar Nongbsaw, Lamphrang K Wanniang, Briios Dewkhaid and Tirallin Syiemiong.
Nongtnger said preliminary investigation indicates that the incident happened over a “land dispute” and added the investigation into the incident is underway.
