The National People Party (NPP) is harping on “lack of development” of Gambegre constituency to garner votes for its candidate, Mehtab Chandee.
NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “Lack of development seems to be the main point. As the ruling we focus on the growth of the constituency.”
However, he refused to comment if former MLA, Saleng A Sangma had not done much to develop the constituency but said, “He was there for a long-time.”
Gambegre seat in West Garo Hills district is set for the by-poll on November 13. The seat was vacant after Sangma contested and won the Lok Sabha elections from Tura.
Dhar said as per ground reports collected by the party, its candidate Mehtab is ahead of other candidates. “As of today the report is positive our candidate is much ahead,” he claimed.
TMC’s MDC Sadhiarani Sangma, (sister-in-law of former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma), Bernard N Marak of the BJP and Jingjang M Marak of the Opposition Congress are running the by-poll.
The NPP leader stated that the TMC candidate is “way below” Mehtab and the BJP contesting the by-poll will not have any bearing on the NPP.
