Hours after the Election Commission announced bye-election to the three Assembly seats in the State, the National People’s Party (NPP) today announced its candidates to vie from the Mawryngkneng and Rajabala Assembly constituencies.
State NPP president, WR Kharlukhi, informed that Abdus Saleh will contest from Rajabala constituency and Pyniaid Sing Syiem from Mawryngkneng constituency.
He also said that the party would also put up a candidate from Mawphlang constituency, for which discussions are going on.
Along with 27 other states across the country, the ECI will hold the bye-election on October 30, State Chief Electoral Officer, F R Kharkongor said.
The three seats where the by-poll will be held in Meghalaya are Mawryngkneng, Rajabala and Mawphlang following the death of the sitting MLAs. – David Nongrum, Azad Zaman and SK Sunn, Kharkongor.
David Nongrum who was the sitting MLA from Mawryngkneng had died in February, Azad Zaman of Rajabala constituency in March and S K Sunn who represented Mawphlang constituency on September 10.
Nongrum and Zaman were Congress MLAs, while Sunn was an independent.
Counting of votes in the three seats will be held on November 2, the CEO said.
