Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh today attended a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Zone 3 virtual meeting held under the chairmanship of the Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh, Pasang Dorjee Sona, on the issue of a racial statement made by YouTuber Paras Singh against a Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering.
The virtual meeting was attended by the Speakers of Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and the Deputy Speaker of Assam.
Following the meet, Lyngdoh informed that all Assembly Speakers of the eight North East states have decided to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to address issues of racism against North East Indians.
The Speaker also said that it is also high time that the country takes racial discrimination seriously before it starts penetrating into the minds of the younger generation.
