Shillong, July 18: Nongthyllep SC held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout to beat Patharkhmah SC 5-4 and win the Tirot Sing Cup 2026 at Nongrah Playground, Nongkhlaw on Friday.
After a tense final ended level in regulation time, Nongthyllep converted all five spot kicks while Patharkhmah missed one.
Thousands of fans packed the ground for the finale organised by the Nongkhlaw Social Cultural and Sports Association to honour freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem.
Power and Water Resources Minister and MLA of Mairang, Metbah Lyngdoh congratulated both teams. “The team that played better deserved the win tonight,” he said, praising the discipline and talent on display.
Mairang MDC Equator Nongrang, NSC&SA President, the village Sordar and other dignitaries also attended.
The victory marks a memorable finish for Nongthyllep in a tournament that showcased strong local talent from across West Khasi Hills.
