In yet another blow to the state Congress, Cores Marwein, the secretary in charge of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee for Nongpoh constituency, today tendered his resignation from the party.
Speaking to reporters after submitting his resignation letter, Marwein said that in his journey as the secretary of the party he found out that the present Congress is not well organized and lacks respect and has neglected grassroot workers while lacking coordination.
“I have always voted for the Congress till the last election but never been much of an active worker for the party. After Mayralborn Syiem and the MDC quit the congress, the president of the MPCC requested me to reorganize the Congress in Nongpoh but as time went on I found out that the Congress is not well organized and has no respect for the grassroot,” he said.
He also claimed that he has interacted with many people and over 128 households within the constituency who have expressed the same desire that they no longer want to associate themselves with the Congress.
“The party workers under Nongpoh are also totally ignored and are never asked or consulted on the party tickets,” Marwein said while adding that the Congress is weak throughout Ri-Bhoi and has little hope of winning in 2023.
