Shillong, Dec 8: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has urged the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to build bus sheds at Chitoktak (Agitok) and Rongkhon and installation of speed breakers in Rongkhon stretch of the highway.
In a letter to NHIDCL’s Managing Director, GSU highlighted the hardship faced by students and commuters who have to wait on the roadside with no shelter, exposed to weather and safety risks.
The union also flagged the danger of speeding vehicles near Don Bosco School and Rongkhon Baptist Church, saying the lack of traffic-calming measures makes the area risky for children and pedestrians.
GSU’s appeal aims to improve safety and convenience for daily travellers in the region.
