The All Selsella NGOs Alliance, a conglomeration of pressure groups, has written to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills to inform the government of its members’ apprehension that a new indoor sports hall could be damaged even before it is officially inaugurated due to nearby roadworks.
The Selsella Indoor Sports Hall has been much anticipated by the local populace and they are waiting for the completed structure to be formally inaugurated.
“However, we have recently learned that the construction of National Highway 127B may potentially affect the integrity and functionality of the sports hall,” the alliance said.
Although road connectivity is important, the pressure groups are afraid that the work on the highway will detrimentally affect the new sports hall. They asked the DC whether any assessment has been conducted to determine the impact the roadworks will have, what measures are being taken to protect the hall and can the DC provide an assurance that a new hall will be built if the current one is damaged.
