The first session of a new elected House in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) is set to be held tomorrow to administer the oath to newly elected members of the council.
As per the order of the Governor, Satya Pal Malik, the first session of the new House of the GHADC would begin at 11 am at the District Council Hall in Tura. The administering of oath or affirmation would take place during the day.
The order further directed the deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills to preside over both the meetings and to administer the oath on behalf of the Governor.
Further on April 21, the House would meet once again for the election of the GHADC Chairman at the same venue.
Earlier the coalition of 15 MDCs unanimously elected Benedict Marak (MLA and MDC of Raksamgre) as the CEM candidate while GNC’s Nikman Marak will be the deputy CEM.
The NPP’s Rakesh Sangma, who sensationally beat the NCP MLA, Saleng Sangma, in the just concluded MDC election, is set to be the Chairman.
The independent candidates that supported the NPP led coalition, named Garo Hills Development Coalition (GHDC) are expected to be rewarded for their support in the new executive committee.
BJP, an alliance partner of the MDA government in the State, has demanded the post of CEM for one of its two MDCs, as a prerequisite to supporting the NPP in the council.
