The new building of the Village Durbar Higher Secondary School, Swer was inaugurated by Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne yesterday.
The school is situated in Swer village under Khatarshnong – Laitkroh C&RD Block and its construction was sanctioned in 2015 when Chyne was the legislator of Sohra constituency.
The construction of the school building was sanctioned under the Human Capital Development Project of the Asian Development Bank with an amount of Rs. 2 crore.
Chyne assured to fund another Rs. 15 lakh towards the school. He said the school was in a bad shape compared to the earlier years and hoped to see it gets the status of a higher secondary school and introduction of arts, science and commerce streams in the future.
Others present at the function were DSEO, East Khasi Hills M.Lyngwa, Principal of the school, D Mawñiuh, village leaders, members of the managing committee, parents, teachers and students.
