NEHUTA, the North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association, has elected its new office bearers who have recognised that “wrongs” have been done to teachers of the varsity and they will hold their first meeting soon to chart out its agenda.
The newly-elected body comprises Lakhon Kma as president, DV Kumar as vice-president and Marbhador M Khymdeit as general secretary. The other office bearers include Juwesh Binong as joint secretary and Jacqueline J Thabah as treasurer.
Besides these office bearers, six more members were elected to the executive committee, namely Donkupar Syiem, Xavier P Mao, Pankaj Sarkar, P Hangsing and Prasenjit Biswas. Dokatchi Ch Marak from the Department of Garo was elected to represent the teachers of NEHU’s Tura campus. The handing over of charge was attended by prominent faculty.
After assuming charge, in a discussion about the future vision of NEHUTA, Kma outlined the need for “correcting wrongs done to teachers” and pursuing a path of growth for the younger segment of teachers.
Syiem emphasised on continuing past good work and going forward towards creating a healthy academic ambience. Sarkar spoke about NEHUTA’s support for younger teachers to motivate and inspire them for fulfilling objects of teachers’ larger public good and career goals.
