Shillong, Aug 29: Nestlé India has expanded the geographical footprint of Project ‘Serve Safe Food’ in Meghalaya, continuing its collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration, Meghalaya, and the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI).
The project aims to train over 300 street food vendors in East Khasi Hills, bringing the total to over 1,800 vendors in the state. The training program equips vendors with knowledge to improve their food handling practices.
DBS Mukhim, Deputy Commissioner (Enforcement), Food Safety has expressed gratitude for the collaboration between NASVI, the Commissionerate of Food Safety, and Nestlé India.
“Our street food is a key component of Meghalaya’s vibrant culture, and we intend to strengthen it further,” she said.
Dr. Taruna Saxena, Head of Sustainability and Societal Initiatives at Nestlé India, said the project will empower street food vendors by upgrading their skills through relevant training on hygiene and food safety practices.
The project has already benefited over 92,800 street food vendors across 26 states and four Union Territories by educating them on health, hygiene, safe food handling, waste disposal, and entrepreneurship.
