The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), which represents eight student unions, has condemned an IED blast that took place on Friday targeting the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) on the DM University campus in Imphal.
The blast occurred at around 9:30pm and one student, Oinam Kenejy, was killed and another, Salam Michael, injured.
In a release today, NESO drew attention to other worrying incidents, like the torching of a social organisation’s office, vandalism of other social organisations’ offices, ransacking the home of NESO adviser Sinam Prakash, etc.
As a premier students’ organisation, AMSU “has always maintained a non-political identity and has never condoned violence in any form.”
It is thought that the blast is linked to the ongoing civil strife in Manipur.
“At this critical juncture, it is very important for the general public to guide and to ensure that AMSU continues to remain a non-political organisation committed to a non-violent method of movement,” NESO added.
