The North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NERLDC), a unit of GRID-INDIA, observed Swacchata Pakhwada with active participation from employees across its Shillong and Guwahati centres.
The programme, which ran from May 16 to May 31, include a health talk on ergonomics and lower back pain aimed at employee well-being. A ‘Shramdaan’ activity also saw employees cleaning the weekly market area near the Kahilipara powerhouse main road.
Both centres undertook a plantation drive. In Shillong, employees visited Nongrah Presbyterian School, where plantation was carried out in collaboration with the school authorities.
In Guwahati, employees visited the BDS School for the Hearing Impaired at Kahilipara. NERLDC gifted 10 lemon saplings to the school, which were planted by the students with help from their teachers.
NERLDC also distributed cloth bags among the public in Shillong and Guwahati to discourage the use of polythene.
A slogan writing competition for employees and a painting/craft competition for their children added creative flavour to the programme.
A special session on “Waste to Wealth” was conducted by Dr. Jayaditya Purkayastha from Help Earth Foundation, who inspired employees with practical waste management strategies and shared how Assam’s youth are contributing to conservation efforts.
