The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) has warned against outside disruptors who may try to exploit the situation arising out of the assault on a Hindi professor.
Condemning the attack on Assistant Professor Alok Singh, NEHUTA has demanded authorities to take immediate action against those responsible for the act and to ensure justice.
Singh, a teacher of the NEHU Hindi Department was attacked allegedly by President of the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) Sandy Sohtun and five others.
The teachers said that the incident that happened inside Singh’s chamber during working hours has sent shockwaves among the university community.
Expressing concern that the incident may be used to create enmity and destabilise the university NEHUTA has urged the teaching fraternity to unite and protect the university from such incidents, which is unprecedented.
NEHUTA said it is firm in its commitment to uphold academic ideals and resisting falsehoods, division, and sectarianism and vowed to continue conducting itself with integrity, honesty, and sincerity.
