North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) secured the 15th rank among the top central universities in the latest Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2023.
Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, the NEHU Vice-Chancellor, while congratulating the faculty, administrative staff, students and all stakeholders of the varsity, said that the goal of making NEHU known to the rest of the world has begun. He said that the IIRF 2023, although not the same as the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) ranking framework, is a step towards achieving greater goals and that the university has been working towards it.
“The Covid pandemic affected everyone and it did not spare even the academics. NEHU was similarly impacted by the pandemic, however, with the IIRF rank of 15th, NEHU has solidified its position among the top universities in the country,” Shukla said.
Shukla became the VC during the pandemic and the varsity now has several new centres, such as the Design Innovation Centre, International Affairs Office, Research and Development Cell, Dr Ambedkar Centre of Excellence on the Shillong campus and the Bio Incubator Centre and Livelihood Incubation Centre in Tura. NEHU also has plans to open a Skill Development Centre to offer certificate courses in different trades, which will help the youth of the region become more employable.
NEHU is also working hard to help its graduates secure jobs once they graduate, a press release stated today. Dalmia Cements recently hired another batch of students within a span of six months, Emami has also started hiring students of NEHU while the university recently signed an agreement with Sodexo, a multinational company, which will hire students for apprenticeship, internship and employment. The VC said that the university’s next big goal is to secure a good NIRF ranking and to take NEHU to higher heights.
