The North-Eastern Hill University Non-teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) has backed the demand of the NEHU Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) for the university’s two Pro Vice-Chancellors, Prof Sherwin M Sungoh and Prof Fameline Marak of Shillong and Tura campuses respectively, to immediately resign.
The two staff organisations are of the opinion that the two Pro VCs were appointed through the illegitimate action of Vice-Chancellor PS Shukla, who has been on leave following intense protests against his functioning at the tail-end of last year.
NEHUTA and NEHUNSA also said that Sungoh cannot be appointed to this statutory post as she has only a few weeks more in service before she retires on May 31 – anyone appointed to the post of Pro VC should have more than three months left before retiring, the two associations have stated.
