The Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) donated benches and desks to a new school in Ummat 2 village, an area of dispute between Meghalaya and Assam.
The St Joseph English Medium School was constructed by villagers in 2021 to provide better education to the children of the area, who were facing difficulties in schooling because of the distance and lack of roads to the nearest school back then.
Each family donated Rs 150 towards the teachers’ salaries. This effort on their own part is necessary because the village has been neglected for a long time and little development has reached it.
The RBYF, after handing over the benches and desks to the school, assured the villagers that they would continue to extend every possible help to keep the school running.
The school, it is hoped, will provide better access to education for the children in the area and help bridge the gap between rural and urban education. It also sets an example for other villages in the region to come together and take initiatives towards building a better future for their children.
