Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Rekha Sharma will be on a three-day visit to the State to hold a conference on women entrepreneurs for non timber forest produce.
Sharma will be accompanied by members Delina Khongdup, Mamta Kumari and member secretary Meenakshi Negi.
The workshop and conference will be held on July 8 and 9 at the State Convention Centre here.
About 200 rural Women entrepreneurs, cultivators, SHG members, traditional medicinal plant growers, officials and stakeholders including academic scholars and industry practitioners take part in the regional capacity building workshop titled, “Promoting Entrepreneurship among Indigenous Women of NER based on Non Timber Forest Produce”.
The workshop is being organised in collaboration with Meghalaya Biodiversity Board. The sessions will cover market dynamics, technology adoption, value chain challenges, and income augmentation.
The expected outcomes are development of strategies for market integration and adoption of relevant technologies to enhance business operations and market reach, Identifying bottlenecks and creation of detailed action plans to overcome value chain challenges, enhancement of efficiency and profitability, generation of innovative ideas and actionable plans for diversifying income streams, enhancing economic resilience and sustainability and to create a collaborative environment for promoting NTFP-based entrepreneurship among indigenous women in the North Eastern Region.
