Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma has slammed the State II government for using Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against protesters in Tura.
As many as 52 persons were arrested in connection with the violence in Tura on July 24 and were charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Meghalaya (Maintenance of Public Order) Act and Prevention to Damage to Public Property Act.
“There are arrested youths whose ages are between 19 to 20, and what would be their future and career by putting them under UAPA,” Sangma told reporters after the first day of the autumn session today and questioned, “Are the people who participated in the meeting terrorists?”
He condemned the stand of the government and said that the government should rectify it.
