Shillong, Apr 17: There were three big winners in the 5th Meghalaya State League today on what was otherwise a day of very close results.

Mawlarshong SC romped to a 5-1 victory against Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun in Mawkyrwat’s Group H, while in Williamnagar Janepih Youth SCA defeated Attong Matgrik FC 3-0 in Group G. Mairang, which is back to co-hosting the MSL after a nine-year gap, saw a huge turnout of fans who witnessed Langsning FC defeat home side Mishon SSCC 4-1 in the first match of Group F.

The game began well for Umdang Pyllun as they took the lead in the 30th minute via Rangkynsaistar Mawsor. However, they were unable to hold the lead and Mawlarshong went 2-1 up at the break thanks to Hopefullness Wanniang (36′) and Arkwis Wanniang (43′). Wiwonstar Nongsiej (74′, 85′) and Lenny Kravitz Lyngdoh (83′) put the game beyond doubt in the second half with three more goals for Mawlarshong.

Langsning, meanwhile, also had to come from a goal down to win. In a hectic first 10 minutes, Rikyrshan Warjri (3′) produced the fastest goal of the tournament for Mishon before Nelson Rymbai (5′, 8′) found the back of the net twice to give Langsning the lead. Young talent Kyrmenskhem Mukhim (45′) added another goal before half time and Manbhalang Nongmin (77′) put in a fourth goal for Langsning in the second half.

Attong Matgrik, on the other hand, did not win any of their MSL 2024 matches and, unfortunately for them, that run of form continued today as Janepih sailed through in Williamnagar on the back of goals by Rishembhalang Wanniang (38′), Banteilang Synnia (49′) and Edyson Iawphniaw (65′).

There were also two draws today, with Laskein SCSC versus Lamin XI SCC finishing 2-2 in Group C at Amlarem. Both sides held the lead at different points in the game, with Laskein scoring through Rithrangmiki Biam (14′) and Iomaikyjohn Lamare (77′) and Lamin XI via Jowel Khongdup (24′) and Genial Lamin (44′).

Over in Wahiajer, the Group E contest between Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC and Lamyrsiang SCC ended 1-1. After a goalless first half, Soniroy Suchiang (58′) put Iatyllilang Lumsehkot in front before Eborki Marsharing (81′) levelled the scores for Lamyrsiang.

The Group B game at the MFA Ground in Shillong was also heading for a draw until a stoppage time penalty gave Mawphu SC a 1-0 win over Mawlum Tyrsad SCC. After a breakdown in defence, Banman Roy Nongsiej was heading for goal and that forced Mawlum Tyrsad goalkeeper Damankhraw Khongsit to pull down the opposing player in the box. Iakmenlang Khongjee (90’+4) then stepped up and converted the spot kick.

Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC were also 1-0 victors today, as they beat Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC 1-0 in Group D at Khliehriat. Here Monush Lapang scored the only goal of the fixture in the 74th minute.

There will be just two matches tomorrow, with Umlakro SC scheduled to face Lawbah SC in Group F at Mairang and Maram FC slated to take on Balmanduri FC in Group G at Williamnagar. Both games will begin at 3pm.

Tomorrow’s fixtures (all to kick off at 3pm):

Group A (Shillong SSA Stadium) – No match scheduled

Group B (Shillong MFA Ground) – No match scheduled

Group C (Amlarem) – No match scheduled

Group D (Khliehriat) – No match scheduled

Group E (Wahiajer) – No match scheduled

Group F (Mairang) – Umlakro SC vs Lawbah SC

Group G (Williamnagar) – Maram FC vs Balmanduri FC

Group H (Mawkyrwat) – No match scheduled
