After nearly a month since a Meghalaya IRB 6th Battalion constable on duty in Jharkhand elections, Teiborlang Marbaniang was found dead, his mother has ruled out suicide.
40-year-old Teiborlang was found dead on November 18 allegedly by suicide, but the state government is yet come out with a clarification to satisfy his mother, Anita Marbaniang and his wife Daphiny Kharbani who believe that he was murdered.
Anita told Highland Post that she had seen his body which was brought home on November 20 and all the wounds on his head and neck revealed that he was mortally hit and wounded.
“The last time I called him was on 14th November and asked him how he was and his living conditions. He replied “all well, everything is fine”, “good place and food etc were fine,” she said.
Anita said on November 18 she received a call at 7.45 in the morning saying he was sick in hospital. After a few minutes another call from his headquarters in Umran that he had passed away, she said.
According to the written report of his commanding officer at that time, he was told by the jawaans at around 12 o’clock (no pm or is mentioned in his report) that the deceased was found hanging on the back of the bus used to ferry the jawans on their duty around the town. He was told by the men that it seemed to be a suicide. The matter was taken to the local thana. A post-mortem was held.
The post-mortem report, a copy of which is available, noted marks and abrasions on his neck, and injuries on his skull. However, much cannot be made out of the copy as it is in extremely illegible handwriting.
The mother of the deceased policeman has refused the allegation that her son committed suicide. She said that this allegation has to be proved beyond doubt. She said though she is a single mother with no back up of any kind, she along with the wife of the deceased will write to the authorities to ask them hold a proper inquiry into the circumstances of Teiborlang’s death.
She said authorities must come out with a statement so that all doubts can be cleared and begged for all the support for her fight for justice for her son.
