Over the last few years Moolamylliang, a village in East Jaintia Hills, has built up a reputation for tourism, environmental care and, especially, its Christmas lights.
This year, the famous lights will be turned on from December 18 and the dorbar shnong has organised a raft of activities for the holidays.
The lights will be turned on every evening from 5pm to 12 midnight and will be on display until January 3. The village is around 112km from Shillong and 15km from the East Jaintia Hills headquarters of Khliehriat and can be found easily by searching for Moolamylliang Presbyterian Church on Google Maps.
For the inaugural day, Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi will be the chief guest and Sutnga Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla the guest of honour.
A Christmas concert will be organised on the evening of December 22 featuring bands from the state. This will be followed by another musical night the next day. Overnight accommodation for visitors can be had at several guesthouses.
