The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Shillong on Friday will not disrupt the lives of city residents, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promised today.
A prime ministerial visit entails security precautions, road closures and the like, which threaten to upend Shillong’s already precarious traffic situation. What is worse is that Modi will deliver a speech in the heart of the city, at Khyndailad.
Despite this, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie promised that the high profile visit will not be a pain in the side of the ordinary Shillongite’s life.
Modi will land at the helipad in Upper Shillong and then come to Jhalupara point before paying a floral tribute to freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem at the State Central Library premises.
He will then proceed to Khyndailad where he will campaign for his party ahead of the February 27 Assembly elections.
BJP legislator AL Hek added that Modi wants to avoid causing any inconvenience to school children and is therefore planning to time his event to avoid the school going traffic and commuters.
