The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Associations (MJCTU&A), the apex body of all unions and associations of state has endorsed the call of the Joint Platform of Central Unions and Independent Sectoral All India Federations and Associations and unanimously decided to observe a two-day nationwide general strike on March 28-29.
The MJCTU&A supports the 13-point charter of demands by the national bodies to ‘save’ the public sector, economy, people and nation.
The joint council also decided to hold joint demonstrations on March 25 at 5:30pm in front of Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank, Shillong, and also on March 28 at 12 noon at the same venue in support of the demands and the strike.
The main demands include scrapping the Labour Codes and EDSA, reversing the privatisation plans of banks and PSUs, cancellation of NPS and restoration of old pension scheme, regularisation of contract workers, income support of Rs 7,500 per month to non-income tax paying households, increased allocation for MNREGS, universal social security for Anganwadi, ASHA, Midday meal workers and for those not covered by any social security scheme, Rs 26,000 as minimum wage, increased public investment in agriculture, education, health and the halt of inflation.
