Shillong, Oct 22: The Jaintia Joint Alliance (JJA) has demanded the State government to make its stand clear over the claims made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that Block I and II are sole properties of Karbi Anglong.
The JJA, a joint committee of the Jaintia Youth Federation and War Jaintia Students’ Union, said the government of Assam also intends to soon erect pillars to affirm its claim.
“Such remark is viewed as a direct threat to the territorial integrity of Meghalaya and an insult to the sentiments of the Khasi-Jaintia people, whose ancestral lands are being unjustly claimed by another state,” JJA Chairman Ombormi L Tariang.
Asking the Meghalaya Chief Minister of Meghalaya and the government machinery to immediately make public the government’s official stand regarding the statements, Tariang said failure to do so would imply that Meghalaya is not a full-fledged state and continued to act as a subordinate entity of Assam which is wholly unacceptable to the people of Khasi-Jaintia.
The JJA said it will not allow ancestral lands to be encroached upon and urged the government to take decisive measures to safeguard the dignity, right and territorial integrity of the State.
