The Meghalaya Congress is going digital to enrol new members into the party.
The party in Meghalaya has set up a process using a chatbot on WhatsApp, wherein interested people have to send a simple ‘Hi’ or ‘Hello’ to +91 90779 09175, whereafter the user will be asked for name, voter ID number and photographs.
This entire process takes less than a minute, and once this is done, the information fed in by the user is verified at the back-end and a digital primary member identity card is sent to the user on WhatsApp.
The initiative to go digital has been made at the insistence of the party’s leadership in New Delhi.
“Congress has always been at the forefront of adopting new technologies, which are people-friendly and help bring in efficiency. This vision and its tenets are ingrained in the ethos of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Party and these have been carried forward from the vision our late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who vehemently believed in our calling of our unique identity and inculcating our culture by granting us, without an ounce of doubt, statehood 50 years ago and of late Rajiv Gandhi, who brought in the IT revolution in the country,” the state Congress president Vincent Pala said.
