East Jaintia Hills police seized over one kg Crystalline Methamphetamine or Crystal Meth valued at Rs 1.15 crore, from an alleged interstate drug trafficker travelling in a bus from Mizoram towards Guwahati today.
The seizure comes a month after 10.16 kg of the same drug was seized by the district police.
East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said that as per information available, “This is transnational syndicate whereby raw material in shape of crystal meth is transported to neighbouring island country and it is processed further into methaphetamine tablets. It’s a new network which has been busted.”
It may be noted that Mizoram police last week made massive seizures of the drug crystal methamphetamine with a combined worth of Rs 65 crore, both involving Myanmar nationals.
Dhanoa said the seizure was made from one Joseph Hmangaih Zula of South Aizawl, Mizoram, who was travelling in a night super bus bearing registration number AS01 LC 6216.
Based on credible information the person was detected at Nongsning. During the search the police team recovered the illegal psychotropic substance packed in a plastic bag inside a purple suitcase, the SP said.
He said tests of the white crystal-like substance weighing, 1.017 kg was positive for methamphetamine.
A case under the NDPS Act was registered at Khliehriat police station and Dhanoa said further investigation is going on to unravel the entire network.
