Meghalaya won 13 medals at 10th North East Zone Shooting Championship organized by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) at the Assam Regimental Centre here from August 20 to 27.
More than 270 shooters from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland participated at the championship wherein Assam was adjudged the overall champion.
The Championship was organized in collaboration with the Meghalaya Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs and supported by the North Eastern Council.
The closing ceremony was attended by Member of the State Human Rights Commission, Peter JP Hanaman in the presence of Col. B.S. Rawat, Deputy Commandant, Assam Regimental Center and other dignitaries besides the ISSF judges, technical officials representing the National Rifle Association of India.
In his speech, Hanaman emphasized on the need to create platforms to promote the talent pool in shooting and stressed on the need for shooters to compete often in order to excel and enhance their shooting skills. This, he said, can be achieved only if support and proper facilities are created and provided by the government.
