Shillong, Mar 23: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today said that the government is committed to roll out a new pay structure for ad-hoc and SSA teachers in the state and said verification process is on.

Rymbui highlighted that implementing the new pay structure will result in an additional burden of approximately Rs. 200 crore on the state’s exchequer. However, he emphasized the importance of investing in the education sector for the betterment of the student community.

The government aims to provide a supportive environment for teachers, encouraging them to remain committed to their profession and deliver the best education possible, he added.

Rymbui also urged the School Managing Committees to be proactive to intervene into the problems faced by their teachers. “Seek the intervention of the government if there is any dereliction of duty by the teachers,” he added.

On the ongoing process of rationalizing schools in the state he said that sub-divisional school education officers are working diligently to merge schools where necessary. This rationalization aims to enhance efficiency, addressing situations where institutions have no teachers or zero enrollment.

Rymbui reassured the public that this exercise will not compromise teachers’ employment. Instead, displaced teachers will be relocated to nearby schools, fostering a more effective education system.

He said that this “massive” exercise will take time even as he asked for the cooperation of all stakeholders.
